Slider Revolution – Preload Video
To ensure the video loads first in Slider Revolution, you can follow these steps:
- Optimize Your Video: Before uploading, make sure your video is optimized for the web. This includes reducing the file size as much as possible without compromising too much on the quality. You can use tools like HandBrake to do this.
- Use a Poster Image: While your video is loading, you can display a poster image. This is an image that will be displayed until the video has loaded. Choose an image that represents the video well. You can set this in the “Source Settings” of the video layer in Slider Revolution.
- Preload the Video: In some cases, you can preload the video. This starts loading the video as soon as the page loads, but be careful with this setting. Preloading a large video can slow down the load time of the rest of your site.
Here is how to set this up:
- Select your Slider from the Dashboard
- Click on “Module General Options” (the cogwheel)
- Go to Defaults
- Set “Preload Amount” to “Auto”
Please note: This option might not be available in all versions of Slider Revolution. It’s also worth mentioning that this can increase the amount of data your site uses, which could be a problem for users on limited data plans.
- Lazy Load Adjustment: Adjust your lazy load settings. If you have this feature enabled, the video won’t start loading until it’s near the viewport. If your slider is near the top of the page, you can disable lazy loading for the slider.
- Select your Slider from the Dashboard
- Click on “Module General Options” (the cogwheel)
- Go to Loading
- Disable “Lazy Load”
- Use a CDN: Using a Content Delivery Network (CDN) can help deliver your video faster to users around the world. This is because a CDN stores copies of your video on servers around the world, and serves the video from the server closest to the user.
Remember that while you can do things to make the video load faster, it’s still dependent on the user’s internet speed. If they have a slow connection, the video might take time to load regardless of your optimizations.
For a better user experience, consider having a fallback for slower connections, like an image that can load instantly. Most people will understand if a video takes time to load, but having something there in the meantime can make your site seem more polished and professional.
